New! Ed Byrne's Latin Jazz Evolution CD
This is a truly entertaining CD. Ed Byrne’s Latin Jazz Evolution septet is the band for both sophisticated listening and traditional Latin dancing. This exciting new instrumental ensemble further develops the fusion of authentic Latin dance rhythms and world-class jazz improvisations.
The Latin Jazz Evolution septet is comprised of trombone, violin, tenor or soprano saxophone, keyboards, Ampeg baby bass, congas, and timbales.
Ed’s compositions for the LJE employ sophisticated longer forms such as 8, 16, 24, 32 and 40-measure recurring forms. And while other Latin jazz groups use mostly simple salsa cliché harmonies of the 18th and 19th century, those of the LJE are highly complex, featuring 20th and 21st century harmony, including extended harmony, non-functional chord successions, constant structure, bitonality and atonality, pitch collections, pc and modal transposition and mixture, motive transposition, unresolved melodic tensions, and parallelism.
In addition, the LJE incorporates such Avant-garde devices as group improvisation, parallel and quartal harmony, pedal point, palindrome, and much more. The result is an amazing amalgam of cutting-edge jazz performed over intense--and authentic--Latin dance rhythms ideal for traditional Latin dancing.
“Ed Byrne’s New CD Conquistador is a fun listen. The Tunes, the musicianship are right up there with the best. This is Grammy material.” Dom Minasi
"The freshest sound since Gil met Miles... Ed Byrne's 'Conquistador' with the LJE offers music jazz lovers will want to listen to over and over while latin music lovers dance the night away." Gary Anderson
